Programs/Tabs

Although it may seem like we are at a point where our computers can do a million tasks at once, this unfortunately isn’t the case. As you open up programs and even browser tabs, these tasks require more memory. Eventually, your computer runs out of available memory, resulting in a stuttering/slower device.

We recommend closing any programs/browser tabs you may not be using. This can free up memory for your computer to use, providing a better experience.

Infection

Malware and virus infections are another common problem that can severely slow down a computer’s performance. While many viruses/malware make themselves known right off the bat, others may hide in the background wreaking havoc on the device.

We recommend always having malware/virus protection installed on your device and running frequent scans to make sure your device is clean.

Startup Applications

Does your computer seem to start up really slowly? Certain applications/programs actually launch when you start your computer, slowing down the process at the same time. You can see these startup programs by searching for Startup Apps.

We recommend disabling the startup of any applications that you don’t need immediately. You can open up these programs as you need them instead of slowing down the startup process of your device.

Device Needs A Reboot

We often hear people say that they leave their desktop and/or laptop computer running pretty much constantly. This can slow your computer down in the short term and long term. The more your device is on, the more the hardware gets used. Computer hardware does not last forever and will eventually start to experience problems. We recommend restarting your device often and turning it off when not in use.
